This training involved leading local Haitians in the installation of water-harvesting swales.

Challenge:

Train local Haitians to survey contours and reduce erosion on their fragile soils following a devastating earthquake in 2010. To store water from the wet season in soils to improve crop productivity during dry season.

Solutions:

PDI team members lead the installation of water harvesting swales with the help of local Haitians during this hands-on training.  Haiti is suffering from severe deforestation with associated cultural degradation.
