Regenerative Agriculture

At Permaculture Design International,

we recognize that food is a human right and a most basic need. Food production capacity will vary from project to project depending on the client’s goals and site’s characteristics, but it is usually an integral part of any project.  We are well versed at designing diverse, low maintenance, high-yielding landscapes that work synergistically with the elements on the site and its inhabitants. Our designs can address issues such as food security (and abundance), resistance to intensifying weather events, resiliency toward unpredictable climactic conditions over time, growing food in drought conditions with minimal water usage, regenerating living soil and sequestering large amounts of carbon from the atmosphere into the soil.

Food and farming

are vital elements in assisting clients to create resilient communities and achieve the desired degree of self-sufficiency and resilience. Through the use of permaculture design we create food ecosystems that restore disturbed land, create habitat for beneficial wildlife, and regenerate air, water, soil and a host of other ecosystem services, while producing an abundance of food. These food ecosystems mimic natural ecosystems by producing most, if not all, of what they need to thrive, with minimal inputs of materials and labor - much like a forest. We populate these food ecosystems mainly with perennial edible and useful plants, as well as domesticated animals where appropriate. We strive to create situations where clients and their communities will have diverse, reliable, local sources for nurturing themselves over the long term.
